Moss Agate: Crystal Green Dnd Dice Set +
I love taking on challenging dice orders. It might be a form of masochism, I am not quite sure. Because with custom designed orders, you absolutely have to make sure the customer loves the final product. With the designs you make for your own pleasure, there are bound to be thousands of people out there who will eventually love and buy them. Destiny just needs to align your paths.
But this time, the custom order was a bit different. I had to craft a dice set that imitated the moss agate gemstone. The excitement of the challenge and the handsome amount of money my customer offered made it easy for me to get straight to work. Even though I formulated the mixtures on paper and my theoretical research was complete, things do not always go as planned in practice. Although I got close to the look the customer wanted, it just did not feel right to me and I did not like it, which is the most important part anyway. I threw away many sets simply because I was not satisfied with how they looked, and I kept experimenting by improving the formula.
Mimicking the spreading moss or lightning like patterns, the specific shade of green, and the faint, subtle presence of white was a much more complex task than I anticipated. Toward the end, after observing that some pieces of the 7 piece set turned out beautiful while others did not, I brought down all the molds from my shelves to the workbench. I prepared enough mixture to pour 10 sets at the exact same time and went ahead with the casting. Out of those 10 sets, meaning 70 individual dice, I was definitely going to pick the absolute best ones to give to the customer.
My expectation was just to complete one single dice set, but in total, 4 beautiful dice sets emerged. I lined them all up on the table and presented them to my dear customer. She curated her own perfect set from her favorite pieces, and I shipped it out to her. She was completely satisfied. That left me with 3 remaining sets.
As a principle, I believe it is right to wait at least 6 months before putting copies or similar versions of commissioned custom designs up for sale. Now that a long time has passed, I have finally added these 3 remaining sets to my shop. But I must confess, this set was one of the most complex applications I have ever done to this day.
Naturally, the name comes from the gemstone we replicated: Moss Agate.

Contrary to popular belief, these mossy patterns are not organic plant remains. Instead, they are completely natural fractal formations created by iron and manganese oxide minerals that accumulated during the crystallization process.
